Backflow Valve Installation

In a proactive effort to protect local homes from flooding, State Representative La Shawn K Ford partners with the Westside Health Authority (WHA) to provide a one-million-dollar flood prevention effort entitled the Residential Backflow Preventers Program for homeowners in the State of Illinois 8th District. This program is funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

WHA is proud to announce the Residential Backflow Preventers Program, which is available to eligible homeowners.

Backflow valves are essential devices that prevent contaminated water from flowing back into a homeowner’s home, which can occur during heavy rainfalls, flooding, or sudden changes in water pressure—posing serious health risks and costly damages.

We’re committed to protecting residents and their homes,” said La Shawn K Ford, State Representative of Illinois 8th District. “By offering this installation at no cost, we’re making sure every eligible property has the opportunity to safeguard not only their home but also our entire community.

Why Backflow Valves Matter

Without a backflow prevention valve, water from toilets, dishwashers, or storm runoff can flow backward into your plumbing and into your homes. Installing a backflow valve helps:

  • Prevent sewage backup in homes
  • Minimize flood-related damage
  • Reduce long-term repair costs

Residents are encouraged to act quickly, as the program is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is expected to generate high demand.
