Community Technology Center

When Mr. P.K. Howard enrolled in WHA’s ten week Introduction to Computers class, he had one goal --- to help his son build his construction business. Mr. Howard had recently retired and had little experience with computers. “I didn’t even know how to turn it on, says Mr. Howard. Now, I’m confident how to use my new computer and the internet for business and personal needs.”
Westside Health Authority helps to bridge the digital divide in the Austin community by providing an 18 station computer lab for community residents to take computer classes, conduct online job searches, create resumes, complete homework assignments, and many other digital needs.
In addition to daily open access hours, WHA offers quarterly computer classes where community residents can learn the basics of computer operations. The classes offered include: Introduction to Computers/Microsoft Office Suite, Advanced Microsoft Excel/Word/Power Point Training and Certification. Many students who enroll in the computer classes have never taken a computer course. The classes are offered free of charge to community residents. There are instructors on hand at all times who are knowledgeable and available to help students at all levels.
