Letter from the Chair
As a former employee of WHA, I am excited to reunite with this dynamic organization and honored to provide leadership as Board Chairman.
WHA exists to use the capacity of local people to improve the health and well-being of Chicago's Westside residents. 2005 was a year of phenomenal growth for WHA and has moved our organization closer towards accomplishing its mission.
Every Block a Village (EBV) continues to be the foundation of our community organizing and outreach efforts. With this solid foundation of local support, WHA has created and facilitated programs for youth, employment, technology, health, prisoner re-entry, economic development, and well-being. In addition to EBV and a variety of programs, in 2004 WHA completed the development of the Austin Wellness Center. The Center was built using primarily local African American-owned contracting firms and now provides health services to thousands of patients each year.
The recipe for this progress includes the commitment of local EBV Citizen Leaders, the leadership of Jacqueline Reed, and the hard work of staff and support of donors. Our board of directors has the responsibility of assisting WHA in the decision-making processes that affect the organization's daily operations, funding and strategic planning. Throughout this New Year, we as the board will work diligently with WHA to ensure more organizational growth and, ultimately, more positive influences within the Austin community.
Thank you for your commitment and support.
Sincerely,
Bashir Muhammad
